GPD arrests two in connection to scam targeting local businesses

STAFF REPORTS :::

The Griffin Police Department has arrested two men – Gerald Deshazor, age 29, of Hampton, and Alondzae Reeves, age 32, of Jonesboro – in connection to a fraud case targeting local businesses.
The GPD in March issued a fraud alert in reference to a scam involving two individuals using a U-Haul truck in an attempt to fraudulently obtain merchandise from Blake’s Building Supply in Griffin and a second Jackson business.
GPD investigators say the two individuals on April 17 allegedly attempted to commit the scam on another local business.
Having learned of the March alert, the business notified the Police Department, and Investigator Stacy Beckom and Investigator Mike Morris on April 20 executed an undercover operation at that business.
As a result of the operation, Deshazor and Reeves were apprehended as they attempted to pick up property they allegedly believed had been approved through what officials say was a fraudulent transaction on April 17.
Authorities say Deshazor and Reeves had recently relocated to this area from Pennsylvania, which was the location confirmed to have been rented from.
Both suspects had recently relocated to this area from Pennsylvania, where Beckom had earlier confirmed the U-Haul had been rented.
Deshazor and Reeves are currently incarcerated in Spalding County Jail.
