Woman pleads guilty to murder in death of paraplegic man abandoned in woods

STAFF REPORT :::

Ruby Kate Coursey has plead guilty to murder in the death of Troymaine Johnson, a paraplegic who died after being abandoned in a wooded area.

According to a press release issued by Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney Ben Coker, the guilty plea before Judge Christopher Edwards was entered Tuesday in Upson County Superior Court.

Coursey plead guilty to felony murder and neglect to a disabled adult and was sentenced to life in prison.

During the time Coursey abandoned Johnson – between March 14 and 17 – temperatures were below freezing.

“Because of the hard work and diligent effort of the Upson County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Dan Kilgore along with assistance from the GBI and Thomaston Police Department, the judicial system was able to bring about a swift resolution to the case,” Coker said.
