The Griffin Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are conducting a joint investigation of a bank robbery that occurred Wednesday morning.
According to information released by GPD Chief Mike Yates, officers responded to the First National Bank branch located at 1475 W. McIntosh Road at approximately 9:15 a.m. in reference to a report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officers of the Uniform Patrol Division were informed that a black female wearing a disguise had entered the rear door of the bank.
Officials say she was wielding a weapon when she approached the counter and demanded money from tellers.
The suspect is described as a dark-complexioned black female who speaks with an accent. She is estimated to be between five feet and five feet five inches tall, weighing 130 to 140 pounds.
Authorities say the suspect fled the scene on foot, travelling northbound with an undisclosed amount of money.
Investigators are making progress and developing leads in the case.
“We are not releasing further information at this time,” said GPD Chief Mike Yates. “We are working with the FBI as we pursue an active lead.”
