SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
Amber Reese Brown Norton has died as a result of injuries sustained in a Dec. 12 shooting. She was 42-years-old.
The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office on Monday morning stated confirmation of Amber Norton’s death had been received from Spalding County Coroner Sonny Foster.
Authorities say Amber Norton sustained a single gunshot wound to the head in an attack allegedly committed by Grady Jack Norton, age 52, who has been identified by relatives as an ex-husband of Amber Norton.
Personnel of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 600 block of Cheatham Road in response to a report of a shooting.
Officials previously reported that as the deputy entered the residence, he observed Amber Norton lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
At that time, Jack Norton was allegedly armed and located next to the victim.
According to Sheriff Darrell Dix, the deputy ordered Jack Norton to put down the weapon, but at that time, the gunman fired one shot into his own head.
Dix has said the incident remains under investigation, but that evidence thus far indicates Jack Norton shot Amber Norton prior to taking his own life.
SCSO investigators are continuing their investigation of this incident as a murder/suicide.
