SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
The Georgia Board of Elections has forwarded to the Attorney General Chris Carr a report alleging violations of election law or rules by Spalding County Election Supervisor Marcia Ridley, Terry Colling, who held the supervisor’s position prior to Ridley, and the Spalding County Board of Elections and Registration.
The report, issued after the state Board of Elections Feb. 24 meeting, alleges Colling violated election law by placing 446 voters in the wrong districts.
Ridley is accused of violating election work rules regarding the issuance of incorrect ballots to three voters in the 2017 general election and four additional voters in the 2018 primary and for the improper handling of provisional ballots by allowing two people to vote a second time in 2017.
The Spalding County Board of Elections and Registration was included in the complaints against both Colling and Ridley.
According to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office, it is routine for county boards of election to be reported when individual officials are named in their professional capacity and should not be construed to imply wrongdoing by individual Board of Elections members.
The allegations against Ridley may also represent the actions of other workers under her authority rather than her own deeds.
Raffensperger’s office says the alleged election violations may be negotiated by the Attorney General’s Office or brought before an administrative law judge.
