Woman with multiple stab wounds rescued from Pike County attic

A woman with multiple stab wounds was rescued Friday morning from the attic of a house under construction in Pike County.

Pike County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call reporting an unknown person was inside the house located on Tanyard Road. The complainant had observed the person on a surveillance system.

Upon arrival, deputies located Lydell Holmes in the attic with an injured woman.

Investigators allege Holmes had also lit a blanket on fire inside the house.

After taking Holmes into custody, deputies discovered the woman’s injuries were extensive. Emergency medical service personnel responded to the scene and provided treatment. She was subsequently air lifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment of multiple stab wounds.

Authorities say the victim also reported Holmes had forced her to leave her residence at knifepoint.

Holmes and the victim had been involved in an ongoing relationship, officials said.

Holmes has been charged with aggravated assault, burglary, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and arson. He is being held in the Pike County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
