BREAKING NEWS: 11-year-old Spalding County girl killed by stray bullet

An 11-year-old little girl was shot and killed Tuesday morning when a stray bullet entered her bedroom window, striking and killing her instantly.

According to Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix, the shooting occurred at approximately 1 a.m. in Spalding Heights.

“One of the rounds that was fired at the intended target missed, travelled through the victim’s bedroom window, and struck her killing her instantly,” Dix said. “Spalding County Sheriff’s Office uniform patrol deputies, criminal investigators, crime scene investigators, STING investigators, and Wellstar EMS responded. Spalding County Coroner Michael Pryor arrived and pronounced the child on scene. We have had the full support and assistance of Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney Marie Broder’s Office since the incident occurred.”

The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit is providing assistance to the family.

“My Victim Services Unit has been with the family since last night providing them with an alternate place to stay and helping with expenses. This is an ongoing, active investigation and more details will be released as soon as possible. For the time being we are not releasing the name of the victim or any further details,” Dix said
