Teen shot and killed one block from Memorial Stadium during GHS-SHS football game

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

A young teen was shot and killed Saturday afternoon approximately one block from Memorial Stadium during the Griffin High Bears-Spalding High Jaguars football game.

The annual game between the hometown rivals was this year scheduled for early afternoon hours, beginning at 2 p.m., and numerous law enforcement officers from the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office and the Griffin Police Department were on hand.

At approximately 4:42 p.m., officers working the football game heard shots fired in the vicinity.

The area was canvassed, and the victim, a 14-year-old boy, was located at the intersection of East Poplar and S. 5th streets.

The victim’s family has been notified Spalding County Coroner Michael Pryor has identified the teen as Emmanuel Dorsey, who resided on West Tinsley Street.

“When they (deputies and officers) got to him, he was unresponsive. EMS arrived on the scene and was unresponsive. He was transported to Spalding Regional where he was pronounced dead,” Pryor said.

Dorsey sustained a gunshot wound to the torso.

“We’re sending his body to the GBI for autopsy – he’ll be going in the morning – and it’s an ongoing investigation of the Griffin Police Department and the Coroners Office,” Pryor said.
