SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

Griffin City Manager Jessica O’Connor confirmed Wednesday that D’Marquivius “D.J.” King has resigned from the Griffin Police Department.

O’Connor also said a disciplinary conference for GPD Chief Mike Yates will take place Thursday.
King and Yates have been on paid administrative leave since February and April, respectively, while the GBI investigated King’s actions during a 2021 murder investigation.

The GRIP previously reported that an internal GPD record dated Nov. 30, 2021, determined King had wrongfully concealed the alleged involvement of Damon Beck, his brother, in the May 9, 2021, murder of Javarreis Reid.

Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney Marie Broder, who requested the GBI investigation, on Tuesday announced that she will convene a grand jury in November to hear the GBI case on King.

In addition, Broder said the GBI investigation identified policy violations, and that she had forwarded that information to O’Connor.
