Joint operation targets Spalding County sex offenders

Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam announced an operation was undertaken that targeted registered Sex Offenders located in Spalding County.

Beam stated that there are currently 170 Sex Offenders within Spalding County with most being on probation and or parole. A joint operation conducted by the SCSO Criminal Investigation Division, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and State Parole and Probation was conducted Oct. 12 and 13.

Officials say the primary point of this operation was a violation check of the offenders who have search clauses as part of their probation or parole.

At the conclusion of the two-day investigation, five offenders had allegedly violated their parole or probation for various reasons, chiefly for being in possession of nudity on

cell phones or computers. A team of GBI forensic investigators conducted audits of all

phones and computers, iPods, iPads, Game Boys and Wii and Xbox systems.

Arrested and charged with violation of probation were Zachary Steven Thompson, of 1578 Patterson Road Lot 52; Jamarcus Deon Sladen, of 534 N. Hill St.; Jason Chadwick Ford, of 1913 Bonnie Ridge Road; Charles Patrick Flippen, of 2865 Steele Road; and Lemuel Joseph Downs, of 61 Pickens Drive.

Beam also stated that on Oct. 20, CID personnel, targeting the remaining 150 sex offenders that are required by state, conducted the second portion of the investigation

law to register as such, and at the time of registration, provide a current address.

The offender must physically reside at the residence listed and if they do not, or are found to have moved, they are considered absconders of the sex offender law, resulting in the issuance of a warrant for their arrest, Beam said.

According to Beam, this second portion of the investigation found 5 sex offenders allegedly in violation of the law.

Investigators have obtained arrest warrants and are currently seeking Reginald Brassell, who is charged with failure to register and violation of probation; and charged with failure to register are Isotta Dewberry; Keith Head; Charles Thornton; and Edward Whitner.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the above listed sex offenders is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Beam stated that investigators will continue to conduct these types of operations in

order to keep track of, and know where all registered sex offenders are living in this county and to ensure they remain in compliance with the laws of the State of Georgia.
