The Spalding County Board of Commissioners has given the final local approval required for the proposed new airport to move forward.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) involving local governmental entities and the Federal Aviation Administration was required for the project to proceed.
The Griffin-Spalding County Airport Authority on Oct. 13 approved the MoU, with the city of Griffin Board of Commissioners following suit Oct. 14.
The Airport Authority and city BoC votes in favor of the MoU were unanimous, but the County BoC had one dissenting vote, that of outgoing Chairman Chipper Gardner.
The Grip will post additional information regarding the MoU following the Monday, Oct. 20, county BoC meeting, which is ongoing.
