County manager’s budget proposal recommends no changes to refuse and recycling centers, denies Sheriff’s request for gang unit funding

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

A precursory evaluation of the Spalding County Fiscal Year 2016 budget released today by County Manager William Wilson indicates an overall decrease of 1.69 percent.
Two hotly-discussed issues – the future of the county’s refuse and recycling centers and Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam’s request for increased funding for the formation of a gang unit – received differing recommendations.
Wilson has recommended commissioners make no changes in funding to the refuse and recycling centers. If approved, that means the centers will continue to operate as they have at no additional charge to residents.
Beam’s request, however, was denied. The budget Wilson has now presented to Board of Commission members does not recommend increased funding for a gang unit.
Publisher’s note: A more detailed article regarding the proposed FY ’16 budget will be published in this week’s print edition of The Grip.
