The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into what authorities say was an attempted murder/suicide.
According to a press release issued by Sheriff Darrell Dix, deputies at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday responded to a report of shooting at a residence in the 600 block of Cheatham Road.
Authorities say as the deputy entered the residence, he observed a female victim lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
A male with a firearm was observed next to the female victim, officials say.
The deputy ordered the male to put down the weapon, but the at that time, the armed male fired one self-inflicted gunshot wound into his head, the press release stated.
The wounded female victim has been identified as 42-year-old Amber Rae Brown.
She received medical care at the scene before being airlifted to the trauma unit of an Atlanta-area hospital.
The male subject was identified as 52-year-old Grady Jack Norton, of a 92 Place address.
Officials say the next of kin of both Brown and Norton have been notified.
