SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
Griffin Electric crews continue to work to restore power in the city where 425 households remain without electricity following severe Wednesday evening storms.
To assist those who remain without power, Crescent Elementary School has been opened and Griffin Fire-Rescue, Griffin Police Department and City Church are on hand now.
Chick-fil-A Taylor Street is providing lunch free of charge.
If you, family members or someone you know needs a safe place to cool off in air conditioning or charge cell phones, please refer them to Crescent Elementary School.
Wellness checks can be requested by calling the Spalding E911 nonemergency line at 770.229.9911.
Officials are asking residents to avoid the southside area where trees are power lines remain down, and power crews continue working to restore power.
Please refrain from calling Griffin Electric System Operations as that slows internal communications necessary to re-establish power.
Also, please do not approach crews as they are working. They have now been going for 28 hours and need to remain focused on the inherently dangerous job at hand.
