SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
Smart Web is no longer employed by Spalding County.
The change in Web’s employment status was announced during the Monday night Board of Commissioners meeting.
Web, who headed up the newly-established Marshal’s Office, County Manager Steve Ledbetter and other officials have been subjected to community criticism since a June 14 incident in which Web shot and killed a dog in front of family members, including a special needs teen.
Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix announced last week that his office is investigating the incident.
Web’s employment status changed following a report by Dix to county officials Monday.
“As of this afternoon, Sheriff Dix has revoked Mr. Web’s deputization and he is no longer with the county,” Ledbetter said..
The GRIP will report in greater detail on these developments Tuesday.
